Mandarin Oriental Launches “Fans Of MO” Loyalty Program

Mandarin Oriental has just launched a formal loyalty program, called Fans Of MO. The “fans” thing is in line with their typical branding, including their ad campaigns, where they have celebrities say that they’re “fans” of Mandarin Oriental.

While I can appreciate their desire for consistent branding, at some point this is all a bit confusing, because Mandarin Oriental’s proprietary travel agent program is called Mandarin Oriental Fan Club.

Anyway, as of now Mandarin Oriental’s new Fans Of MO loyalty program is pretty straightforward, in the sense that there are no status tiers or points. Rather you get benefits as long as you’re a member (it’s free to join) and book directly with Mandarin Oriental. Benefits include complimentary wifi, a welcome amenity, and access to exclusive member only offers.

9 Transatlantic Business Class Products I’d Like To Review

Read more at: http://feeds.feedblitz.com/~/528856546/0/onemileatatime/

Over the past few years I’ve been making an effort to review as many new business class products as possible (you can find all the reviews in the trip report index). It has been really fun to do so. As much as I enjoy my umpteenth flight in Cathay Pacific or Lufthansa first class, as a product enthusiast there’s something fun about boarding a flight and having no clue what to expect. I’ve really enjoyed it.

What’s funny is the feedback I’ve gotten on these flight reviews. Back in the day when I reviewed the most popular airlines for redeeming miles over and over, people told me to review more obscure airlines. Now a lot of people tell me to stop reviewing obscure airlines, because they’re not useful for those redeeming miles. Anyway, just a random observation, though I’ve been enjoying these reviews so much that I have no plans to stop.

I cross the Atlantic quite often, so earlier while trying to plan my next trip I decided to compile a list of the transatlantic business class experiences that I still want to review. These are mostly airlines I haven’t yet reviewed, though in some cases also new cabins offered by airlines I’ve already reviewed.

Delta May Lose Tax Break Over NRA Stance

My goodness, this keeps turning into a bigger and bigger issue.

Over the weekend Delta announced that they would no longer offer discounted fares through their group travel program for those attending NRA conferences, and that they’re requesting that the NRA remove Delta’s information from their website. This followed pressure from a lot of anti-gun consumers urging all companies to cut ties with the NRA — Delta certainly wasn’t the only company to give in.

Then yesterday morning Delta issued a statement regarding their stance on the NRA, which did damage on both sides, in my opinion. I feel like this was a situation where they should have just been quiet. Here’s what they said:

American & Qantas Submit Joint Venture Application (Again)

Read more at: http://feeds.feedblitz.com/~/528896878/0/onemileatatime/

In November 2016, the US Department of Transportation blocked the expanded joint transpacific joint venture that American and Qantas had requested. Interestingly the expanded joint venture was approved by Australian authorities, while the US thought that the proposed alliance would substantially reduce competition and consumer choice, without producing sufficient countervailing public benefits.

American and Qantas seemed pretty confident that their request would be approved. On the basis of the joint venture being approved, American launched flights from Los Angeles to both Sydney and Auckland.

So they were quite disappointed when it was rejected. However, rather than appealing the decision right away, they decided on a different strategy. They planned on refiling once Trump was in office, hoping that his administration would take a different approach — American First, if you will. 😉
